ShelterBox

Working in partnership is a major consideration between the Maidstone Leisure Trust and Serco Leisure. Along with their roles as Trustees, Clive Bradburn and Norman Springett are also volunteers for ShelterBox. This charity, started by a Rotary Club in Cornwall, provides immediate shelter and associated equipment for families where disasters have occurred anywhere in the world. Clive and Norman, visit schools clubs and other groups demonstrating the equipment to raise awareness of the plight of some 85 million people around the world who have currently been made homeless by natural disaster and conflictBy providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster, ShelterBox is transforming despair into hope.

On this occasion Clive and Norman have hooked up a tandem to a trailer which they have modified to carry one of the familiar green ShelterBoxs and set up in sites in Mote Park during the Bank Holiday Weekend. This included outside the Leisure Centre entrance and the new Mote Park Outdoor Adventure. Interest was shown by passers by and especially the youngsters who are fascinated to hear what it is like when a family loses every possession they have, including their home.

Clive and Norman are members of the Maidstone Riverside Rotary Club who support ShelterBox. The club has recently purchased two shelter boxes with their contents, which will go to help families during the ongoing plight of refugees in Syria.
